It has been widely reported over the past few months that Gala Bingo have been fighting a multi million pound dept pile and their company was under certain threat of collapse if an agreement could not be met with its lenders.
Well it now looks like the Gala Coral group, owners of (Gala Bingo) can breathe a sigh of relief as the (Times Online) learnt last week that lenders have now agreed a to a re-financing deal which will cut their dept from a whopping £2.6 billion, down to £1.85 billion.
As you can see the dept pile Gala Bingo were sitting under was definitely not pocket change, in fact you could say they were talking more in telephone numbers! It was good to read that the Gala Coral group have now been rescued from certain collapse, as this has saved the jobs of thousands of people within the UK and abroad come to that.
Plus the gaming scene would just not be the same without Gala Coral in it. Our high street shops were hit hard by the recession and as we know Woolworths went into administration and had to close down all their branches. This sent shock waves throughout the UK and I would imagine the same would happen if we had lost Gala Bingo clubs for good.
Along with many bingo clubs of course, the Gala Coral group also owns a string of casinos and betting shops and with the new restructuring plans going ahead these will now all fall under the control of (mezzanine) finance providers and they are led by Apollo Management, Cerberus Capital Management, Goldman Sachs and Park Square Capital.
This will also result in Apollo becoming the biggest shareholder of the Gala Coral group, with a 25% stake. The biggest loser in this deal between Gala Coral lenders has got to be (Permira). An insider told the Times online that Permira could be down as much as £500 million pounds. Makes your eyes water doesn’t it? Prermia never got the opportunity to take any money out of the business and their bet on Gala Coral most certainly did not pay off.

Bingo sites have been known to turn their hand to a number of different projects in the past and by the looks of things Gala Bingo have decided to delve into the world of fashion. Throughout March, Gala Bingo TV has acquired the services of (This Morning’s) fashion expert – John Scott.
So John will be joining them on the Gala Bingo couch, where he is set to hand out all kinds of fashion advice and tips to their TV bingo viewers. On Friday night John discussed Oscar glamour, in honour of the Oscars, which as we know took place on Sunday night.
If you did miss this insight then don’t worry as John will be joining the Gala Bingo team every Friday night during March between 8pm to 9pm. So if you would like to pick up some fashion advice for Mothers day, which is now only around the corner or put a fashion spring into your step ready for summer, then this will be the TV bingo show to tune into.
John Scott said: “I’m really looking forward to being on Gala TV. This show is an absolute must for anyone getting muddled up between their Prada and Primark. I’ll be sharing my top fashion tips and I’ll also be giving answers to all your style emergencies this spring.”

According to statistics released by Gala Bingo online, the 27th February 2009 was the luckiest date of the lot, as it is the day they gave away the most money last year. Gala Bingo claim that they currently payout around £65 million pounds per month to their lucky winners, which is a staggering amount of cash by anyone’s standards.
Will the 27th February turn out to be just as lucky for Gala Bingo players in 2010? Well we will just have to wait to find out about that one, but as this date has just been and gone, all may be revealed shortly.
Gala Bingo also revealed that Julie was the luckiest ladies name last year and David topped the lot out of the men.

I say (startled) because this is taking it to the extreme and as we know nothing in this life is truly guaranteed!

In celebration of the awards season, Gala Bingo have decided to host their very own (Hollywood Bingo Show) live from their sky TV bingo channel. This is set to be a start studded bingo event and one where they aim to spill the celebrity gossip to their bingo viewers.
The Hollywood show is due to air every Friday night between 8pm and 9pm on the Gala Bingo TV channel, which is sky or freesat channel (861) for all you interested players out there. Paul Ross, who as we know is a complete film buff will be joining them on 19th February, where he will be discussing all the Oscar hopefuls and film releases up for an award.
The Oscars is a massive event and the most prestigious within the film history, I would just love to be invited to one of those (pre-Oscar) events, where they hand out all sorts of goodies to the celebrities for free! Oh well, a girl can dream I suppose.

Gala Bingo has hit their target figure of raising £1 million pounds for their chosen charity Sue Ryder Care, which is no mean feat. You could say no mountain was going to stop Gala Bingo in their charity fundraising plight, as even the tallest mountain in the world Mount Everest played its part and helped to put cash into the charity prize fund pot.
A 25 strong team of Gala Bingo employees took on everything Mount Everest could throw at them, frost bite, dehydration, altitude sickness and much more, to hold the world’s highest bingo game and raise money for charity.
The summit aided Gala in smashing through their target figure of £1 million pounds, but they are still not content with that and have pledged to raise a further £500,000 during 2010, taking their total fundraising initiative to the dizzy heights of £1.5 million for Sue Ryder Care.
Paul Woodward, who is the Chief Executive of healthcare charity, Sue Ryder Care, said: “On behalf of Sue Ryder Care, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone at Gala Coral for their continued support. All money raised through fundraising efforts and corporate partnerships is vital funds that help us provide end of life and long term care for more people living with conditions including; Cancer, Stroke, Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis and Huntington’s Disease.”
Gala Bingo have their employees and the generosity of their customers to thank for helping to raise an astounding amount of cash for a very worthwhile charity indeed. We have seen their employees take on all sorts of tasks from dressing up as dogs and racing around the Brighton and Hove greyhound track to parachuting out of aeroplanes.
To this end it is not wonder the chief executive of the Gala Coral group, Dominic Harrison has nothing but praise for them, he said, “The fundraising work carried out by Gala Coral staff and customers to date has been truly inspirational, from the many local events right through to the trek to Everest Base Camp Trek.
