Obama Bingo Raises £20,000 with Gala Bingo
A few weeks ago Gala Bingo teamed up with Mrs Obama, (Stepmother of US President, Barak Obama) to bring their online bingo players a great charity Obama Bingo game to take part in and it was their aim to raise funds for Sue Ryder Care. Gala Bingo are currently in the midst of a huge charity drive as they have said they will raise at least £1 million pounds for Sue Ryder Care by the year 2010 and they have already been on all sorts of initiatives to try and achieve this objective.
Keiza Obama came under the media glare, so to speak when it became apparent that Barak Obama had a real chance of being elected the next president of the USA and it has long been reported about her love of the bingo game. You have got to take your hat off to Gala Bingo really, as they see a great marketing opportunity with Mrs Obama’s association with bingo and took it, the end result being as we know – Charity Obama Bingo at Gala Bingo.
This association between Mrs Obama and Gala Bingo has just resulted in them along with her help raising £20,000 towards the fund for Sue Ryder Care. In just 10 days of online bingo play, in which the Obama Bingo room was only open one hour per day £10,000 was raised, Gala Bingo matched this, which meant the end result was £20k being added to the charity pot.
Head of Marketing at Gala Bingo, Clive Cottrell said: “After only an hour’s play a day for 10 days, ‘Mrs Obama’s Bingo’ raised getting on for £10,000. We are delighted to match that amount – which means £20,000 will go to our group-wide charity Sue Ryder Care. Mrs Obama’s Bingo game was just one of the ongoing activities being undertaken by Gala Coral Group to meet our target of raising £1million by 2010 for Sue Ryder Care.”
Sue Ryder Care Chief Executive Paul Woodward said: “We’re thrilled that Gala Bingo’s recent initiative has raised such a fantastic amount of money for us. On behalf of the charity, I’d like to extend a sincere thanks to everybody involved, and to Gala Bingo for their ongoing support. All monies raised will go directly to helping us continue to deliver expert and compassionate care to people living with conditions including cancer, strokes, Multiple Sclerosis and Acquired Brain Injury.”
