Weather conditions throughout the UK in December 2009, have significantly disrupted bingo play in most Mecca Bingo and other land based bingo clubs. But despite (The Big Freeze) Mecca Bingo have reported that although customer visits were down, this has been offset by an increased average customer spend per player.
In fact despite the difficult economic and weather climate’s the Rank Group, owners of Mecca Bingo ended last year on a gaming high. The groups casino arm (Grosvenor Casinos) was the revenue show stopper, as like for like revenues in this department were up by 4% in the 12 weeks leading up to 27th December 2009.
The rank group are still in the process of developing seven of its sites into G Casino brands. The G casinos are designed to appeal to a much wider audience including the (non gamer) as they not only offer a fun night out packed full of entertainment, but a place where you can have a flutter at the same time if you wish.
Many land based bingo clubs closed their doors for the last time in the UK during 2009. Mecca Bingo although also closing some of their less profitable clubs being one of the few bingo establishments to actually open some new bingo clubs as well.

Mecca Bingo also opened new clubs in Nottingham and Catford (south east London) last year. Plans to open another new Mecca Bingo club in Oldbury (West Midlands) are set to go ahead later this month.
