Bingo Players have Lucky Escape

Land based bingo players were in for a real shock last week when a ceiling reportedly fell down on them whilst they was playing at the Pavilion bingo club, situated on the Scottish boarders………..so you could say that they had a very lucky escape.
As reported by BBC news, three fire engines, three ambulances and two police cars attended the pavilion bingo club last Thursday night, but thankfully no bingo players were injured. The pavilion bingo club adjoins a cinema complex and everyone was evacuated from both buildings when the dream unfolded.
All cinema goers were given refunds at the left the building, so there could not have been no real panic for them to get out……..we also assume that the Pavilion bingo club will do something similar for all the bingo players involved in the incident.
It must have been quite a shock for their members…….one minute they were sitting playing a good old game of bingo and the next, the ceiling falls in on them…….literary! The Scottish boarders council building control team are now investigating just what happened, so hopefully they will get to the bottom…….or should that be (top) of it.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said: “The information we have is that a large part of false ceiling has come down in the bingo club. No persons were injured and the matter will be investigated by building control.”
It is quite rare to hear about such an incident as this taking place at a land based bingo club because most of them are under strict building controls. However accidents will and (inevitably) happen in any industry, but bingo does have one of the best safety records around…….after all it is generally a placid and quite game, which has a great social aspect to it.
We have seen many land based bingo clubs close their doors for the last time over recent years and Scotland was particularly hard hit in this area. The bingo hall slump does seem to have settled down at bit now with not so many of them shutting as they were this time last year.
