ITV to Launch The Zone Bingo

ITV are due to launch a brand new teleshopping / bingo / game show named (The Zone) on their flagship TV channel ITV1. It is due to air at midnight each day and run for around two hours. The Zone is due to feature a number of different activities including home shopping in conjunction with QVC and games like bingo and roulette.

At present most (past midnight) TV shows aired on ITV1 are simply repeats, so coming up with a new concept like (The Zone) may just be a good idea. ITV recently re-launched a bingo site on the net and this time they decided to go with cashcade (ex owners of Foxy Bingo) to market their bingo wares etc.

The Zone is only really possible due to the relaxation of the laws by Ofcom surrounding these kinds of shows last year. The bigwigs behind ITV plan to run The Zone on a 6 month trial period to see how it goes, lets just hope this one stands the test of time and does not end up in the bingo zin bingo like ITV’s first bingo show – Bingo Night Live.

Although, I have to say the Zone is nothing like what Bingo Night Live was all about and a combination concept should appeal to a number of viewers and not just the bingo elite.

As reported by the guardian – William van Rest, controller of TV shopping and gaming at ITV said, “This is an exciting new development for ITV created by a change in regulatory rules. We are keen to trial a range of opportunities to develop a potentially valuable new revenue stream.”

ITV had a major shake up of their organisation last year, as did many other TV networks. Consumer confidence in TV phone in game shows has been at an all time low over the past few years after a number of phone in scandals hit the headlines. Which is why you now see TV presenters give you a deadline when phoning in on any vote or TV show…………because votes will not be cast after that time, but you may still be charged for the call.

It will be interesting to see just how the viewing public take to the Zone, which will be hitting our TV screens shortly.

Online Bingo News Revelations

There has been lots of online bingo action and revelations going on behind the scenes lately! Tombola Bingo have decided to sponsor Sunderland FC, along with casting new players from their site to star in new Emmerdale TV bumpers. These are due to hit our TV screens later on in the year, with filming taking place at the end of the month.

Cashcade the name behind Foxy Bingo renewed their contract with Dragonfish the B2B division of 888.com and this is not the only deal B2B have struck over the past week. Prime Gaming who first established themselves on the net in 2003 have also been in talks with Dragonfish and this ended in them signing a deal this week for B2B to provide them with a comprehensive bingo solution for two brand new (standalone) online bingo sites.

In the five years since prime gaming have been operating they have released a number of different gaming brands all with the (prime) logo attached and these have included casino, sratchcards, backgammon and poker. So it looks like online bingo is going to be the next big thing from the prime gaming group, but just how they are going to fair in this market remains to be seen.

Prime Gaming recently launched an online bingo site on the net called (bingo yard). But this was a skin on the Dragonfish bingo network and the two new sites planned are due to be standalone. This was good to see because we could well do without more bingo sites launching on this particular network, as it is pretty much already flooded as it is.

A networked online bingo site brings players the same online bingo deals, offers, game play, promotions, etc. So other than them being called a different name and having their owned designed homepage, they offer nothing new……….quite annoying really!

Networked online bingo sites are all well and good in their own right, but as I have always said – Give me a standalone bingo site to play at any day of the week.

And last but by no means least, Mecca Bingo recently signed a deal which gave them the rights to (Britain’s got Talent) branding, so a new online bingo room is now planned to open at their site in the not so distant future.

Ladbrokes Bingo Win Tax Settlement

Ladbrokes PLC, the name behind Ladbrokes Bingo have just won a tax settlement to the tune of £80 million pounds……….not pocket change that’s for sure! According to Market Focus, Ladbrokes have been in a long running dispute with the tax man and this refund relates back a number of years up until December 2007.

There was even more good (tax) related new on the horizon for Ladbrokes Bingo as they are also reportedly due to get around £262 million pounds worth of tax credits paid into their account this year.

News of the tax settlement see Ladbrokes shares sky rocket through the roof this week and it puts them in even better (betting) stead. It is not often that you hear about a massive tax dispute like this going in the vendors favour…….so Ladbrokes Bingo must be laughing all the way to the bank at the moment!

With the Grand National race reportedly knocking bookmakers for around £10m this year, due to a favourite (don’t push it) winning the race……….Ladbrokes could have no doubt done with a cash injection boost and they got it, but from a very unusual front indeed, the tax man.

Ladbrokes Bingo however are not the only one fighting for correct (taxation rights). As we know Mecca Bingo have been on a massive VAT taxation reimbursement campaign over the past few years and they set a landmark case by also winning their (VAT) fight when the court of appeal ruled in their favour.

Whichever way we turn we seem to be taxed on everything from the money we earn to the fuel in our cars. And that is without the rest of the kit and kabodle which goes with it, like road tax, insurance tax, flight taxes, clothes tax, food tax, furniture tax, council tax, etc, etc, etc……….in fact you could say people in the UK are nothing but bombarded and restricted with taxation laws.

Why should we have to pay all this (tax) is the key question?………………Oh hang on I forgot, some MP’s need it to so that they can claim even more over-rated expenses for themselves…..from tax payers money I might add!

Online Bingo Stagnates?

Has the game of online bingo finally stagnated in the UK? Well this may or may not be the case, but the growth of online bingo does seem to have come to a bit of a standstill. Whilst we are still seeing a few new online bingo sites launch on the net each month, what we do tend to forget is about all those that fell by the wayside and have been closed down.

So the online bingo marketplace could be reaching full capacity, with players now just flicking from one bingo site to another. There could still be room for some growth, but online bingo sites like Jackpotjoy Bingo for instance have got to be reaching their capacity with millions of members already registered with them.

Multiple accounts within the online bingo industry is also a problem and though online bingo sites do try to battle this, from sources we can confirm that quite a high percentage of players do have more than one account at the same online bingo site. Sometimes players even use their partner’s details to open up extra accounts.

If players are found to have a duplicate account by the online bingo site in question, all wins could be made null and void and they could be banned from playing at the site……….but still they seem to take this risk.

The multiple account issue is a bigger problem than even I thought existed, so more really does need to be done in this area by sites to combat it. However, what can be frustrating for online bingo players is when they sign up at a networked site on the net.

As some sites are networked, details held by them about you can conflict, which means you could find that if you registered at two different named bingo sites and entered the same details like your email address etc, you could get an error saying (email address) already used…………or because you were already registered at a different site running on the same network, bonuses offered may not be given out automatically.

I don’t think the game of online bingo has quite reached the end of the road yet (in terms of growth) but we are getting there. So any new sites hitting the net now will have a much harder time to get their site to work…………..than their long running counterparts.

Tasty Bingo are one of the newest online bingo sites to launch and player numbers at their site are already very high, but this could just be that players have jumped (bingo ship) and not that new players have joined the bingo party!

Tombola Bingo Hold Casting Sessions

Last weekend the team behind Tombola Bingo held casting sessions at a location in London and reportedly a great day was had by the 100 or so tombola players which took part. Tombola Bingo are currently looking to cast new people for their TV bumper ads which are aired at the start and end of every commercial break during Emmerdale.

Tombola Bingo bumper ads are already being shown at commercial breaks of Emmerdale, but tombola want to ramp these up a bit, which is why a new 3 day shoot has been planned for the end of April.

Out of the 100+ tombola players who attended the casting session in London, only some of them will be recalled for the actual shoot. We have heard that the recalled players will participate in all sorts of activities during the 3 day shoot and these are set to include salsa dancing, horse riding, going in the sea and even taking a ride on a rollercoaster!

As we know Tombola Bingo are the current sponsors of TV soap Emmerdale and their sponsorship deal is set to last for some time yet. So tombola obviously wants to keep their TV bumper ads interesting and not run with the same ones throughout the durations of this sponsorship deal.

It will be a while before we actually get to see the new ads appear on our TV screens, but I am looking forwards to seeing just what they have come up with this time, as their current bumpers are a trifle boring I have to say.

It is good to see Tombola Bingo using real life online bingo players from their bingo site for the making of their TV bumper ads on Emmerdale and not actors. After all as bingo players, who really wants to see stick thin models advertising an online bingo site? Not me that is for sure……..real life bingo players is definitely the right route to take in my bingo book………so hats off to Tombola Bingo on that one.

Photos of the casting day which was held in London can be viewed on the Tombola Bingo facebook fan page.
