Over 200 ladies entered the Unlucky for Some Bingo Wings Idol Competition and the news is now in of the lucky winner. Iliana Flade has been announced as their Bingo Wings Idol Star 2009! Not only will Iliana now pick up a £1,000 cash prize, she will be offered a £100,000 pro rata contract and become the ambassador for the online bingo comparison site, Unlucky for Some.
Unlucky for Some launched an advertising campaign a few months ago looking for a larger than life lady to star in their all new commercial, which could be shown around the world.
Out of the 200 entrants, 10 finalists participated in a selection day which took place in London on 24th September. By all accounts this was a fun bingo orientated event, with all the ladies having a great time. We hear bingo cards and bingo balls were involved in the selection day afternoon and from that a bingo wings star was born.
A spokesman for the website said: “We were sick of stick thin models and were sure we weren’t alone. We wanted a real woman to front our campaign and we are delighted that so many ladies came forward and answered our call.”
“All we asked for was that the winner had a bubbly personality and was a larger than life character. We knew that asking for overweight or obese applicants was a bit risqué as it had never been done before but we wanted a woman who acknowledged her size and was totally happy with it.”
Speaking about her experience in the competition and her win Iliana said, “I’ve always been a big girl but it doesn’t bother me at all. Having seen the advert for the competition I thought I would be perfect for the role, plus the fact that I love a game of bingo really helps.”
“I was delighted when I was told I had made it to the final but my main aim was to just turn up and enjoy myself. It was a really fun day and meeting the other finalists was great. Seeing so many larger than life women in one room was a real breath of fresh air.”
Unlucky for Some certainly went with a controversial image for their campaign, but it looks like they set out what they achieved to do and that was celebrate real women.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Index has ranked Ladbrokes Bingo as a world leader in ‘Sustainability’. These figures were based on the annual global SAM analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance.
This is thought to be a great achievement for Ladbrokes as not only have they picked up this coveted title, they were only one of two gambling companies worldwide to be included in the DJSI index in the first instance.
The DJSI looks at a range of different issues and these currently include corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labour practices. It looks at both general and industry specific sustainability criteria for each of the 58 sectors defined according to the Industry Classification Benchmark (ICB).
In total there are just 317 companies worldwide who are recognised by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which is why this is a massive notch in the bedpost for Ladbrokes.
Commenting on the recognition by DJSI Chief Executive Christopher Bell commented: “Corporate responsibility runs through everything we do and I’m pleased that Ladbrokes has been recognised as the top ranked gambling company in the world in this area.”
Ladbrokes Bingo also ranked very highly in a few other areas, human recourse practices and anti money laundering were just two of them. Money laundering through gambling as been a well known fact for many years, so it is good to see big companies like Ladbrokes doing everything they can to try and put a stop to this.

UFS run an advertising campaign in search of a bingo wings star where they wanted to celebrate big and beautiful women. Over 200 hopeful ladies sent in their pictures, but only 10 made it through the selection process and they will now be attending a media studded event in London next week.
The winner of which will be crowned the ‘Bingo Wings Idol 2009’, receive a cash prize and get to be filmed for the Unlucky For Some commercial, which could be shown around the world.
