Mecca Bingo have been on numerous fundraising campaigns lately for their charity partner Whizz Kidz and this time they want your mobiles for mobility, which in essence is what Whizz Kidz are all about – Providing mobility equipment and support for disabled children. Their mobile for mobility initiative is basically asking people to bring in their old disused mobile phones to any land based Mecca Bingo club in the UK.
All recycling funds raised by Mecca Bingo and their customers from the mobile phones will be going in the pot for Whizz Kidz. The Mecca Bingo ‘Wheel of a Difference’ is an ongoing campaign, in 2008 they manage to raise a whopping £286,000 for this very worthwhile charity and they are hoping to beat that this year.
A spokesperson for Mecca Bingo said, “The Charity partnership with Whizz-Kidz is something we’re really proud of at Mecca as the feedback from both team members and customers has been extremely positive. National campaigns such as Mobiles for Mobility are a great way to bring all of the clubs together to work towards a common goal but at the same time make a difference to the local communities in which we operate.”
Ruth Owen, Chief Executive of Whizz-Kidz, also commented, she said, “We are absolutely thrilled with the enthusiasm and inventiveness of all Mecca team and club members. In 2008 alone they raised over a quarter of a million pounds to support young wheelchair-users’ independence. We’re confident that they’ll achieve the same level of success in 2009.”
Ruth also went on to say, Disabled children stand virtually no chance of getting a powered wheelchair on the NHS. Through Mecca Bingo’s funding of powered and manual wheelchairs and training, more children now have the opportunities previously denied them. Please help us raise even more money to make real differences to young lives.”
The front man for Mecca Bingo, (Bingo Dave) has also been doing his bit by undertaking an outlandish task each month. We have already seen bingo Dave get his hairy legs waxed in July this year, all in the aid of raising money for Whizz Kidz of course.

Gala Bingo have taken a look at ‘average win’ figures for the past year and their lucky results are now in with the town of Harrogate being deemed the luckiest place of the lot. Exeter came in second on this poll, whilst Dudley romped in as a very respectable third. Could these lucky bingo hotspots have something to do with the water?
Harrogate is well known for its sulphur springs and spa history, Exeter is a riverside location whilst Dudley is known for its historical canal network. In feng shui mythology, it is believed that moving water can bring you a wealth of luck and if these results from Gala Bingo are anything to go by the (water – luck) element, could have just played a part!
Luckiest Gala Bingo Playing Towns
1. Harrogate
2. Exeter
3. Dudley
4. Cleveland
5. Norwich
6. Crewe
7. Inverness
8. Motherwell
9. Stevenage
10. Portsmouth
Gala Bingo also took a look at their luckiest bingo playing regions and the results were as follows.
No 1 North East – No 2 Wales – No 3 Northern Ireland – No 4 West Midlands – No 5 South West – No 6 East Midlands – No 7 North West – No 8 Scotland – No 9 South East – No 10 Greater London
Gala Bingo stated that all these ‘lucky bingo’ results were based on average player wins in their bingo clubs throughout the past year – (1st October 2008 to 30th September 2009).
Lesley Hall, online PR manager at galabingo.com, said: “As we award more than 500,000 winners per month, it was really interesting to discover Harrogate is the UK’s luckiest town. Who knows what makes the town so lucky, but perhaps it is the magical properties in the water?”

Costa Bingo have just made TV History by airing their first ever online bingo TV advert. Costa Bingo launched on the net just a short while ago as a free bingo sensation and they are reiterating this fact throughout their TV advertising campaign. Costa Bingo have already established themselves and found a niche in the bingo marketplace and this latest move is to push their online bingo site further forwards within the world of bingo.
Their online bingo adverts have been running on prime time TV slots throughout the day and evening across terrestrial channels and Sky. So Costa Bingo have certainly put a big ad budget in place for this initiative.
Debbie Gent, Operations Director at Costa Bingo said, “Our popularity has increased dramatically over the past few months and we are optimistic that our TV advertising will take costa bingo and free online bingo to the next level.” Free bingo is a fantastic way for users to experience the highest level of bingo game play online without the financial risk that plagues pay-to-play operators. We are seeing more and more players make the jump from paid bingo sites to Costa Bingo purely because of the high quality entertainment on offer and the massive jackpots which we regularly pay out to our winners.”
Costa Bingo have stated that over 3,500 players are now logging onto their online bingo site each day to take advantage of what they offer, which is a good mix of free play and real play bingo games. We have also more recently seen an increase in the amount of weekly guaranteed jackpots Costa Bingo run to £3,000 worth of jackpot prizes.
Free bingo play has been somewhat a bit of controversial issue. Players have been given the line of (play free bingo – win real cash) to sign up at respective bingo sites, only to find free cash prizes up for grabs are minimal and ever being able to win enough money to withdraw free bingo winnings near on impossible.
However, that is not what Costa Bingo are about, as they have made changes to the way the offer free bingo on the net, which should in theory suit all playing tastes. Online bingo sites like Costa Bingo certainly look to be the way the online bingo industry is moving forwards at present.

Foxy Bingo have pledged to donate 1p for every 10 bingo tickets purchased by their players on the letter (P) pattern throughout this month. They will also be donating 1p for every single bingo ticket purchased for their weekly Monday night £1,000 guaranteed online bingo game.
The chat hosts at Foxy Bingo will be a participating in a number of offline (playing it pink) fundraising activities. Some of them will be dying their hair pink, walking through the Blackpool illuminations and holding bric and brac sales. Mecca Bingo have reported trading is up for them despite fewer members (overall) throughout all their brands passing through their doors recently. Their customers may have visited less, but they certainly spent more which is why like for like trading is running in line with their expectations and is up by around 2% in the 14 week period up until 4th October.
G Casinos are the new generation casino and Mecca Bingo in Beeston in the new generation bingo club. Mecca Bingo plan to move forwards with their new generation bingo concept as their Beeston bingo club is proving to be a massive success.
At present Mecca Bingo have around 103 land based bingo clubs situated throughout the UK, Gala Bingo are the biggest bingo club with around 147 bingo clubs still in existence. Gala Bingo may top Mecca Bingo in the number of bingo club stakes, but by the looks of the latest figures released from Mecca Bingo they are topping them in the attendance stakes.
According to one report from the Mail Online, Mecca Bingo Beeston is currently attracting around 5,400 members every week compared to a combined total of 6,000 members for three Gala Bingo clubs based in Nottingham.
It is not hard to work out then that profit wise Mecca Bingo should be way out on top. One club, one set of staff, one set of bills etc (5,400) customers per week, compared to Gala Bingos three clubs, three sets of staff, bills and so on.
To this end it is no wonder Mecca Bingo will moving their business forwards in the direction of (new generation bingo). The Rank group are now due to re-launch their Catford bingo club in South London and clubs situated in Birmingham and Scotland could also soon become new generation style clubs at a cost of around £1.5 million per club as early as next year.
Mecca have also seen a 4% rise in spending by their customers and this is said to be due to an improved range of gambling machines on offer. The Rank Group will also continue to invest in conversion of their sites into the all new G brand casinos.
