Gala Bingo gets into Cricket

Gala Bingo will be getting into the game of Cricket………..all in the name of raising cash for Sue Ryder Care. Gala Bingo Woking are all set to hold a charity cricket match on Friday 20th August, at Plough Lane, Wallington and everyone is welcome to turn up on the day, bring a picnic and enjoy all the fun.

40 Gala Bingo employees will be competing for the title, whilst helping to raise even more cash for Sue Ryder Care. On the day a raffle will also be taking place and there will be some great prizes up for grabs which are due to include a Surrey County Cricket Club bat signed by former England captain Alec Stewart.

Gala Bingo pledged to raise one million pounds for Sue Ryder Care, but as they smashed through this target in 2009, they added another half a mill to the fundraising prize pot………meaning that they are now trying to hit through a £1.5 million target before the end of 2010.

To date, Gala Bingo with the help of their customers and employees have already managed to raise, £1.2 million…………so this charity drive will no doubt be hotting up even further for the rest of this year, as there is still £300,000 to go……….but we are sure they are going to achieve it.

Graham Freemantle, General Manager at Gala Bingo in Woking, said: “We’re really looking forward to the day as it’s a great way to get employees from across the Group together while raising money for such a good cause. While it will be great fun, no doubt there will be a lot of friendly rivalry to win the title.”

Gabriela Potworowska, Area Fundraising Manager for Sue Ryder Care, said: “A charity cricket match is a fantastic way to get everyone involved to make the most of our summer and raise money for Sue Ryder Care. The organisation that has gone into the day will ensure that everyone will have a great time. We cannot thank Gala Bingo in Woking enough for their ongoing generous support.”

To see all the Gala Bingo cricket charity fundraising action for yourself, just turn up on the day…..were you too can do your bit for charity and be in with the chance of winning some fab prizes as well.

Mountain Challenge for Gala Bingo Employees

Gala Bingo employees have just overcome a mountain of a challenge, all in the name or raising cash for charity of course.

A 29 strong team of Gala Bingo employees completed the notorious 3 peeks challenge in just 24 hours and this involved the group climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within this period of time.

Gala Bingo pledged to raise £1 million pounds for Sue Ryder Care, but as they smashed through this target in 2009………..they upped the charity fundraising ante by pleading to raise a further £500,000 for them.

To date Gala Bingo through their fundraising initiatives have currently hit the £1.2 million pound mark and the 3 peek challenge, with the 3 peek mountain climb adding £30k to the total. This leaves around £300,000 for Gala Bingo still to raise to hit that £1.5 mill and with the help of their staff and members, we are sure that they will succeed.

Paul Woodward, chief executive of Sue Ryder Care, said: “On behalf of Sue Ryder Care, I can’t thank everybody at Gala Coral enough for their truly fantastic support. The money Gala Coral employees continue to raise enables us not only to maintain provision of care via our health and social services nationwide but to develop and grow so that we can reach out to more people.”

He added: “We know that many people prefer to be cared for in their own homes. As such, with the support of money raised from Gala Coral we will continue to develop community based services that support people to live well in their own homes for as long as possible – and when the time comes, die with dignity, free of pain and in their preferred place of choice.”

Sue Ryder Care do provide a great service for people who really do need it, so it is great that Gala Bingo choose them as their charity partner. The bingo industry have long been believers of helping to raise cash for some very worthwhile charities indeed…………….so on that note, all we have left to say is – Long may they continue to do so.

Board Change for Gala Bingo Coral

Gala Coral, the name behind Gala Bingo announced a board change at their company just a few days ago, as CEO Dominic Harrison has decided to leave the big gaming group and seek opportunities elsewhere.

This of course has led to a Chief Executive job opening at the Gala Coral group. Neil Goulden will be taking over as CEO for an interim period whilst Gala look to fill the shoes of Dominic on a permanent basis.

Neil however is not a newcomer to the Gala Coral group as he has been with them for the past ten years in a few different working capacities. Previously Neil was a group managing director of their casino and bingo brands between 2001 and 2004.

He then moved up a level to Group Chief Executive in 2004 and stayed in this role until 2008. Next Mr Goulden moved up the Gala Bingo Coral ladder once again in 2009 to a new role as Chairmen of the chain………….and now (well for a time being anyway) Mr Goulden will run the whole Gala kit and caboodle.

Speaking about the Gala Bingo board change, Neil Goulden said, “Dominic has played a big role in the development of the group over the last six years and we are grateful for his contribution. He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future”.

Commenting on departing the Gala Bingo Coral group, Dominic Harrison said: “After six years with Gala Coral it is time to seek fresh challenges. I wish Neil and the rest of the team all the best as they take the company forward to the next phase in its development and ensure that it remains at the forefront of the sector.”

Mr Goulden is set to remain in Dominic’s shoes until a replacement can be found, as to whether Gala Coral have got anyone in mind yet remains to be seen. Dominic will also stay with the group until 1st October 2010, to ensure that they CEO handover to Neil goes smoothly.

Gala Coral have remained at the forefront of gaming for many years and we expect them to do so for many more years to come. After all, the gaming industry would just not be the same without them.

888Bingo to Enter Sweden

By the looks of it 888.com, the name behind 888 Ladies Bingo and 888Bingo to name just a few, are looking to further secure their position as the (best bingo brand) online…………..and they will be doing this by moving into the Swedish online gaming marketplace.

On 26th July 2010, 888Bingo is due to go live in Sweden, so to coincide with its launch, 888 have completely redesigned the (888Bingo) website. All promotions and offers will of course be listed in the Swedish language and the currency will be SEK.

New Swedish players signing up with 888Bingo can expect to receive a 100% on their first deposit made and a 10% bonus on all subsequent deposits. This offer does differ from the 888Bingo UK market, as re-deposits are currently met with a 50% bonus……..making them 40% better off each time.

888 will also be tailoring all their jackpots, promos and instant games for the Swedish online market and according to sources they will also be bringing free online bingo to Sweden.

888 Ladies Bingo are currently one of the top UK online bingo sites on the net, but where as they are a standalone bingo site, 888Bingo hit our screens on the globalcom bingo network. So what 888Bingo offer can be found in the same from at many other online bingo sites that come under different brand names.

Networked bingo is all well and good, but in my opinion you just cannot beat a standalone bingo site. As to whether 888Bingo Sweden will be standalone, remains to be seen so we will just have to wait for the site to go live to test this one out.

A new era is also about to begin for 888 Poker, as revolutionary 3D software is due to be launched by 888 on 27th July. To coincide with 888 Pokers new look and new games, the site has been given a complete overhaul…………..where it has basically been re-written from scratch.

The new 888 Poker software is set to offer players a whole new online gaming poker experience and 888.com are definitely blowing their own trumpet about it.

ASA Scrutinise Paddy Power Advert

Paddy Power, the name behind Paddy Power Bingo are not unfamiliar with the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) as their gaming ads have come under their scrutiny before.

But this time around the complaints made against Paddy were not upheld, so you could say that they have been let of the gaming hook, especially when this particular advert received one of the highest number of complaints ever made against a gaming ad.

In total 1089 TV views objected to the Paddy Power advert…………..220 viewers thought that the ad was offensive to blind people and 1070 viewer thought that the ad was offensive and harmful, because it might encourage or condone cruelty to animals.

The Paddy Power advert that we are talking about was the one that showed a game of football being played, by two blind football teams where they used a ball with a bell in it so that they knew where it was. One player kicked the ball of the pitch and at that moment a cat (wearing a bell) run onto the pitch………….you can probably guess what happened next!

Well yes the player went to kick the cat with the bell on as he thought it was the football, this shot was not actually seen by viewers but you could ascertain what happened as you heard a loud (meow). The referee then dropped his whistle in shock and the players on the pitch just stood around. The ref then went over to the blind player (who supposedly) kicked the cat and patted him on the shoulder.

And he said………. “Paddy Power can’t get Tiddles back, there’s nothing we can do about that, but we can get you your money back with our money-back specials”. The ref then proceeded to hand the blind man some bank notes. The final voice over said “Check ‘em out before you bet at Paddy Power …” and the player taking the kick was shown again, in slow motion, and a faint meow was again heard in the background.

In response to the complaints about the advert Paddy Power Bingo said, “Paddy Power plc (Paddy Power) said they always aimed to offer entertaining and innovative campaigns and had taken numerous steps to try to ensure that no offence or harm was caused by the ad. They said the ad depicted a normal event but featured an action that was so unlikely that it was absurd and was a “worst nightmare” type scenario.”

The ASA said, “They acknowledged that it was not offensive or disrespectful in itself to create an ad referring to or involving people with a disability. We noted that the ad featured, and was supported by members of the England Blind Football Team, and showed blind people enjoying a game of football”………..plus a lot more besides, but in the end the ASA stated – “We investigated under CAP (Broadcast) TV Advertising Standards Code rules 6.1, 6.2, 6.4 and 6.6 (Harm and offence), but did not find it in breach.”

You can read the full Paddy Power adjudication by logging onto the ASA website.

Paddy Power has generally gone with humorous types of gaming ads rather than conforming to the norm, which is not always a bad thing.
